Voice and Piano Duo

Susan Legg and Ann Martin-Davis

Susan and Ann both studied piano at the Royal College of
Music with Phyllis Sellick. They have since given recitals in all the major London venues, including the Purcell Room,
Wigmore Hall and St. John's, Smith Square.

Their CD of the complete piano music and songs of Lutoslawski for the ASV Label has received international acclaim and is to be re-released. The CD was inspired by Ann's work in Poland when she met and played to the great composer.

The duo's innovative new touring projects Sound Bites and
Cycles, conceived and developed by Ann, have revolutionised the classical vocal recital.

In 2003 Ann and Susan will take the touring projects to Oxford Literary Festival, Trinity College, Cambridge, Salisbury Festival,  Leicester Music Festival, Swaledale Festival, Nottingham Festival (tour), Canterbury Festival, Hebden Bridge Festival, Frome Arts Festival, Lichfield and Ledbury Festivals and Greenwich and Docklands Festival.

Ann Martin-Davis - Piano studied with Phyllis Sellick at the Royal College of Music where she won the College's premier piano prize, the Chappell Gold Medal.  Ann made her debut recital at the Purcell Room in 1993 and in 1994 she won a German Government scholarship to study with Arie Vardi in Hanover.

Ann performs twentieth century and contemporary repertoire throughout the UK and has been broadcast by the BBC. In 1998, with the help of the British Council, she went to Beijing to study contemporary Chinese piano music. Ann's CD with Susan Legg of the complete piano music and songs of Lutoslawski has received international acclaim and is to be re-released this year together with a new recording of the piano music and trio of Andrezj Panufnik.

More recently, Ann has been working as a creative producer; Cycles (a mirror cycle to Schumann's Frauenliebe und Leben performed with mezzo-soprano Susan Legg) follows the success of her 2001 Sound Bites commission, which was nominated for the Royal Philharmonic Society's Audience Development Award.

In addition to her playing, Ann teaches at the Junior Department of the Royal College of Music and is an adjudicator for the International Federation of Festivals.
